PDF is certainly one of the most popular document formats nowadays. Infix PDF Editor can help you read, create, edit and convert this type of documents. The application allows creating a new document from other PDFs, images or even Scratch. Fortunately, the option called Portfolio lets you open all documents in a given folder.
Its interface is very similar to those of other editors. It is definitely not attractive, and even the various skins available won’t make it look any better. I particularly feel the need of being able to open several documents in different tabs but the application opens each file in a different window instead.
In order to make it easier to use, the tool allows selecting one of three interface modes. The first of them, called Professional, makes all the features visible; the second is expressly intended for filling forms; and the Standard shows only the most widely used features. Although it sounds somewhat confusing, the tool has three other modes that restrict users operations, with the idea of avoiding accidental modification. In this respect, the Viewing mode doesn’t allow any editing operation, the Commenting mode is limited to marking, commenting and stamping, and the Editing mode has no restrictions.
This editor has many of the features that are present in other tools, such as adding hyperlinks, drawing objects, inserting comments, etc. However, one thing I find particularly advantageous about Infix PDF Editor is that it allows editing the OCR text that lies behind a scanned page. This way, you can fix any of those spelling errors that commonly result from using optical character recognition. Another rather unique feature is the translation tool, which uses Internet automatic translation. Once the editing is finished, you can save the document in the PDF format or export it as HTML, RTF, EPUB, plain text or images.
In general, regardless of its limitations, Infix PDF Editor is a useful application supporting some unique features. However, you should know that the latest versions of Microsoft Word let you create, open and modify PDFs. So, if you have already installed the Office suite, you’d better consider if you really need spending your money on other PDF editing software.
You can create, edit, convert, merge, watermark, compress and sign PDF files.
